When you meet someone or have occasion to speak with someone stand up and look them in the eye. Take their hand in a firm clasp and act engaged in the encounter. This is your opportunity to not only express who you are, but to reassure another (and believe it or not we all need reassurance) that he/she is of value.
I was once walking through an airport and noticed a middle age woman and a young man engaged in a conversation. The woman was so intensly involved in listening to the young man that it really drew my attention. She was sitting directly across from him and looking directly at him, leaning a little forward. I too often find myself letting my mind wander while communicating with someone instead of being truly engaged. It's not hard to tell when you're talking to someone and they're doing this.
Instead, be really in the moment engaged in what's going on.
